The City of Laurie, Missouri

Demographic's of Laurie, Missouri

At beautiful Lake of the Ozarks on the west side, or quiet side of the lake, sits the City of Laurie, a fourth class city located midway between the cities of Versailles to the north and Camdenton to the south. Incorporated in 1964 with a population of 106; the city has grown to 945 as of 2012.

Located in Morgan County with a population of 19,309 as of the 2000 census, the city is the hub of Westside activity for many of the residents who live outside of the city limits. There is a statistic called the “Tourism Pull Factor”, The Lake Area Focus in 1995 published an article measuring the impact of tourism and I quote “in order to measure the economic impact of tourism we have to make some assumptions. The first assumption is that we make Missouri a break-even state as far as tourism is concerned. Second, we assume that the first quarter of the year has no net tourism effect in the Lake area.” So then the net effect of the pull factor is 1.55, meaning that the area is on an economic scale for about 107,000 people while the population around the lake is about half that. There are altogether, about 200 businesses within the city limits of Laurie, and five subdivisions under construction. Laurie is proud of its public water, sewer, asphalt streets, parks and recreation facilities. We have 24/7 Police protection, a 24/7 paid fire and rescue station in Laurie on State Road “O” just a block off highway 5. For education, two grade schools within 5 or 6 miles of Laurie in both Morgan and Camden counties with the junior and senior high in both Versailles and Camdenton.

A full time events co-coordinator who oversees recreation activities at a city park and fairground of about 50 acres, a walking trail, a soccer field, a lighted baseball field, various pavilions, and a playground. There is a bowling alley, an indoor swimming pool, an 18 hole golf course, a five screen cinema, various restaurants and a whole lake 99 miles long at the front and back door of the city, along with an outlet mall across the lake within minutes, with box stores such as Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Target and etc. We have in Laurie one of the finest nursing and home for the aged in Missouri, it is unique in that it has assisted care rooms with meals available , as well as full nursing facilities.
